MAZ AND WEICHAI BEGAN TO BUILD A MOTOR PLANT NEAR MINSK

An active stage of construction of a new motor plant began in the industrial park "Great Stone". The joint venture of MAZ and Weichai  shares should be launched before the end of the year, diesel engines will be supplied to the domestic market and exported to other countries.

The first stone in the foundation of the joint venture was laid in September last year. About half a year was spent on preparatory work: the development of project documentation, the examination and the coordination of technical issues. "And today we are ready to proceed directly to the construction of the plant," said Dmitry Katerynich, General Director of MAZ.

The builders practically prepared the site for erecting the plant's facilities. The general contractor is CAMC Engineering.

"It so happened that MAZ works on cooperation with several suppliers of engines. To have our own engines is, first of all, a strategic task for us, "Dmitri Katerinich said. The project, he said, was recently approved and supported by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On the occasion of the beginning of the construction of the plant, a solemn ceremony was held on the construction site. To this end, the Vice-president of Weichai corporation Sue Hong arrived in Belarus.

Joint venture "MAZ-Weichai" will occupy the territory of 3,5 hectares on the territory of the industrial park "Great Stone". It will work as a resident, taking advantage of the privileges and preferences provided by Presidential Decree No. 166 of May 12, 2017. The owner of the plant will be "MAZ-Weichai" ltd, created by  Minsk Automobile Plant (30%) and Weichai (70%). The authorized fund of the Chinese corporation and MAZ will be established in the form of direct investments.

The plant plans to produce diesel engines for trucks, buses and special vehicles. Design capacity - up to 20 thousand motors per year. The enterprise will meet the needs of not only the Belarusian automotive industry, but also will be able to supply about 30% of the products to the markets of the CIS countries and far abroad.

The opportunity to jointly build a motor plant in Belarus was first discussed in 2016 during the visit of the Head of State to China. Then a memorandum of cooperation was signed, which presupposes the organization of production of diesel engines in Belarus.

MAZ trucks with Weichai engines performed well in Russia and Belarus. In fact, Minsk Automobile Plant entered the market of the EAEC and the CIS with a new truck equipped with the engine of the leading Chinese manufacturer. Practically all MAZ truck service stations in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus can provide warranty and post-warranty service for Weichai engines.
